First, Yo-Kai Watch takes place in our world, and your character has normal kid concerns. You are not some pre-teen who's tossed out into the wild world to face down dangerous creatures and train them to participate in weird gladiatorial fight rituals. You're a regular kid who wants to fit in with her (or his) friends and stresses when her parents fight. However, I 'm suggesting that Pokemon games could spend a bit more time coping with stories that we can relate to as people.
What one other component of the game Niantic intends to address is the lack of explanation it gives for certain game mechanics. Addressing especially the rings that form around a Pokemon while catching them, Hanke admits that the game isn't intentionally obtuse.

Nearly everybody you speak to gives you meta-game guidance about Pokemon or Pokemon-related services. They aren't individuals; they are an lengthy tutorial delivery service. The people in Yo-Kai Watch, on the other hand, have distinct characters and issues which you can choose to help them with. Often these difficulties can be solved by summoning or dispelling a Yo Kai, but they do not know that.
