As the keen writer, I 'm, I wanted to write an article about it. But of course, that would mean I 'd have to play. I didn't want to play this Pokemon game. I've never once in my life had the want to play anything that has to do with Pokemon. For the sake of this article, however, I chucked all of those ideas aside and walked around for an hour and a half trying to figure out this Pokemon craze.
The Pokemon card game is quite popular with kids. You may not believe that that has anything whatsoever to do with robots, but if you let your sense go a little 'fuzzy' I believe we can find robotic concepts in all life- that in fact machines were meant to replace things individuals do and robot 'humanizes' the machine even more because of more extensive parameters. So we can speak of a baseball player as a robot (pitches this rapid, had this many hits, weighs this much, is this tall, etc.) and trade cards. Likewise, we get the stats on a Pokemon, and it is rather like a robot. But that's not so in the imagination. In the imagination it is something living. And if we do something to it like make it shiny (glossy daikon cards), it becomes even more valuable and alive. The question is this then: in a networking game like Second Life are you a robot? Will Pokemon ever become real?
It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me how intense people got when I played. It is almost like the hundreds of people in downtown Springfield, Missouri, had viewed a tweet saying, "There're a thousand dollars somewhere downtown, go find it!" or "Beyonce is in downtown Springfield. Go find her!" Because all of a sudden, I'd see a group of four teenage boys running down the road, phones in hand. Clearly, no. Those lads weren't after cash or Beyonce. They were not after anything concrete, anything with an actual benefit or result, for that matter.
If the fantasy behind a game is powerful enough, it can lead to spinoffs. Conversely, something that's popular like Ultraman can lead to a game. But games usually remain games and playthings stay toys. Pokemon has seen really good spinoff (though it is not taking the world by storm) because of its fascinating theory.
I started by walking around downtown Springfield, Missouri, with a friend. My friend is quite into Pokemon Go. He's spent the last week walking around parks and sites throughout the city attempting to capture unfamiliar virtual creatures. He tried to teach me how.
The imagination is a funny thing. Geeks design and fight their 'bots' with an extremely strong ego: they designed the robot; they're matching their skill against their competitor's. When a premise, or story, is place into a game that all changes. Pokemon are robots to be sure, but the user did not design them- computer game geeks did. So it becomes a fantasy world at which item would be to obtain the greatest Pokemon that one can use it 'attribute' to the best of one's ability. When losing, one can practically feel the Pokemon let him down, was not powerful enough, or whatever. He may blame himself partially, but not entirely.
Pokemon enthusiasts throughout the world may shun me, but my decision is that I still do not understand the craze. I don't comprehend how people do not get bored with it after a few minutes and how they get so passionate about funny-looking characters on an app. I do not understand why anyone would spend time on something daft like Pokemon Go. That said, it is not my place to tell the world to stop doing what they love. If you want to play, then play. But I, for one, will not.
All I taken in the hour and a half of playing is that you walk around aimlessly as your avatar on the Pokemon Go app walks to PokeStops, where you can potentially catch a Pokemon. If a Pokemon appears, you've got to throw a virtual Poke Ball at it to get it. Then you definitely walk and walk and walk some more to catch more Pokemon. Apparently, you occasionally can snitch Pokemon from other people and have battles with other users too. That component is over my head.
