Powering up a Pokemon needs fewer candies --- usually just one or two --- but also needs Stardust, which you can make by catching Pokemon and by claiming Gyms. The higher you increase a Pokemon 's power, the more stardust each upgrade will demand. Like evolving, powering up raises the HP and CP of your Pokemon, but at a slower speed. The half-circle meter that rests above your Pokemon reveals how far along it will be to reach its full potential, but it is about your current amount. You're also more likely to locate higher CP Pokemon the higher your level, and the more you play. So powering them up doesn't add too much value in the early stages of the game.

A colored ring will appear around the Pokemon you are trying to catch. Different colours denote the odds of catching the Pokemon, with green being the easiest and red the most troublesome.

In the lower-right corner of the screen, a little tab will show nearby Pokemon. Harnessing this tab will open a window that shows the approximate distance you're from all possible Pokemon in the region. The space is represented by footsteps; 3Only map means it is way, two is average, and one is close. Clicking on one of the nearby Pokemon icons will show you the distance to that special Pokemon. If you transfer your smartphone about in different ways, a green light will eventually flash around the white rectangle --- that indicates the correct direction to head to find it. This can be a bit tricky seeing as the GPS is not always dependable. The pulsing rings around your trainer will change as you get nearer to the Pokemon in question, and the footsteps will begin to decrease from 3 to 2, to 1, and to zero. Once they disappear, it means the Pokemon is right where you're.

Eventually, if you're having trouble catching the Pokemon due to its location on your display, or you just do not desire to be pointing your phone at random angles to locate them, turn off the AR mode. This can help make catching Pokemon easier especially while walking as they are going to stay centered on the screen amid a forest surroundings. This does forfeit some of the game's allure, but it pays to have equilibrium when you are trying catch that coveted Dragonite.

Distinct Pokemon developments need different amounts of candies. Evolving a Ghastly to Haunter, for example, just requires 25 Ghastly sweets, whereas evolving a Haunter to a Gengar will necessitate another 100 Ghastly candies. Candies only come in fundamental Pokemon varieties and are rewarded for catching any Pokemon in a particular evolutionary chain. If you need to evolve a Magikarp to a Gyarados, you'll need a whopping 400 Magikarp candies. While catching so many copies of the same Pokemon may seem tedious initially, it becomes addictive, particularly when you consider that evolving your Pokemon significantly increases their CP and HP, or Hit Points, making them more efficient in battle.

You can feed Razz Berries to a Pokemon to allow it to be easier to catch. Berries are a random drop from Pokestops and a reward for raising your trainer level. Use them by tapping on the backpack icon when trying to catch a Pokemon.

As you hold down the Pokball, the colored ring will go from large to small. You want your Pokball to land on the Pokemon inside that circle --- the smaller the circle, the more experience points you get for hitting it on target. You can also chuck a curveball by holding down on the pokball and moving it left and right before you throw it. It is a lot more difficult to catch a Pokemon in this manner, but you'll get more points.

You'd be forgiven if you thought that once you have found one copy of a Pokemon, you are all set. Be careful, however. Transferring them is not reversible; you won't be able to get transferred Pokemon back. Only deposit the poorer extras of the same Pokemon, and hold on to the most powerful one.

So, for each additional Eevee you capture and transfer, you get four sweets, meaning you will need to catch about 13 Eevees in complete to evolve merely one.
